This week on 22nd April we acknowledge and celebrate World Earth Day. An initiative launched in 1970 as an event to remind us about the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, encouraging people from all four corners of the globe to come together and take action for a healthier planet and brighter future.

A key theme for this year’s event is Planet vs Plastics, with an ultimate goal of delivering a 60% reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040.

At Assurant, we recognise the long-term damage that the over-use and over-production of plastics can cause to the planet. That’s why we continually make significant changes in the way we operate and do business, to support a more environmentally sustainable future, while still providing the excellent service levels which our partners and their customers have come to expect.

One prime example of this has taken place at our European Device Care Centre based in the UK, where we have ditched the plastic from the packaging we use for mailing devices to customers.

We’ve adopted a solution which is 100% bio-degradable, both inside and out, and still manages to provide the same protection to the customer’s precious device that was previously offered by the plastic air sack.

This is just one of the many initiatives taking place at the Device Care Centre and our wider supply chain activities to reduce our carbon footprint.

Thanks to the installation of solar panels to our facility in Staffordshire, we’re on track to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 47% through renewable energy by the end of 2024.

And not forgetting the thousands of smartphone devices we repair and refurbish to prevent them from going to landfill to reduce C02 emissions. These devices are growing in popularity as customers make more environmentally driven purchases.
