Nearly every adult in the UK now owns a smartphone (97%), and smart home devices are becoming the norm. Meanwhile, 70% of smartphone owners plan to replace their devices within the next year—many driven by excitement around 5G and AI.
But there’s a parallel trend that demands attention: a growing focus on device security and durability. Our research found that 41% of consumers have already purchased additional smartphone protection, with an increasing number looking to insurance providers and retailers to offer peace of mind beyond the initial purchase. Extended warranties and repair services are no longer seen as optional extras—they’re essential parts of the value proposition.
